Central Nervous System

Frontal
Language comprehension, Broca's area, Premotor and Primary motor areas are located in this lobe.

Parietal
Somatic sensory area, Auditory and gustatory (taste) areas are located in this lobe.

Occipital
Visual area is located in this lobe.

Temporal
Olfactory, speech/language, and general (common interpretation) are located in this lobe.

Diencephalon
Thalamus, Hypothalamus, and epithalamus are located here.

Thalamus
Relay station for sensory impulses.

Hypothalamus
Under the thalamus, plays a role in the regulation of body temperature, water balance and metabolism. Center for drives and emotions. Pituitary gland hangs from the floor.

Epithalamus
The pineal body and choroid plexus are found here.

Brain Stem
The Midbrain, pons, and Medulla oblongata make up this part

Midbrain
The cerebral aqueduct is a tiny canal that travels through this. The cerebral penduncles are attached to this piece, as well as the corpora quadrigemina (These help with vision and hearing)

Pons
Helps control breathing. It's mainly just fiber tracts.

Medulla Oblongata
Most inferior part. Center for heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, swallowing and vomiting.

Cerebellum
Under the occipital lobe. Provides the precise timing for skeletal muscle activity and controls our balance and equilibrium.

Meninges
Protective layering of the brain. Formed from the dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater.

Dura mater
Double layered membrane. Forms the periosteum. Outer most covering of the brain.

Arachnoid mater
Middle layer. Weblike. Uses threadlike extensions to connect it to the innermost membrane.

Pia Mater
Clings tightly to the surface of the brain and spinal cord.

Sympathetic   =Fight or flight

Parasympathetic=
Resting and digesting
